Track work for the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency’s Espoo Rail Line project caused a five-week traffic interruption on the west-side Coastal Railway from 24 June to 28 July. Due to the delayed track work, train traffic started with special arrangements. Long-distance trains will run normally between Helsinki and Kupittaa starting from Monday, August 5. Turku railway station will move to the new station platforms connected to the Logomo bridge in August. At first, the trains between Tampere and Turku and the Port of Turku will stop at the new platforms. Traffic interruption between Helsinki and Turku – information about exceptional arrangements

Track work for the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency’s Espoo Rail Line project will cause a five-week traffic interruption on the Coastal Railway west of Leppävaara starting from 24 June. We are increasing the prices of commuter train tickets

We are increasing the prices of single, serial and multi-tickets in commuter traffic (lines D, G, H, M, O, R, T and Z) as of 3 June. The price of an adult single ticket will increase by an average of 60 cents. The price increases do not apply to the routes between Helsinki and Hyvinkää and Helsinki and Järvenpää, and student, pensioner and other discounts remain unchanged.Read more

All train services between Pori and Tampere have had to be replaced by bus services from Wednesday 14 February due to maintenance and repair work on our fleet caused by track damage. A political strike will stop train services on Monday 12.2. All long-distance, night and commuter trains will be cancelled during the strike. Before the strike on Sunday 11 February, services will run as normal, including night trains departing on Sunday. If you wish, you can change your long-distance single ticket to another date without paying a 5 € change fee. Reduced train services continued – early week train services replaced with bus transportation

The long period of frost has caused significant challenges for the train fleet. We aim to get train traffic back to the normal schedule as soon as possible and, to ensure this, we will continue to reduce train traffic also in the early week. Most of the services will be replaced by bus transport and some customers will be transferred to other train services. If a replacement service cannot be assigned to a customer, they will automatically receive a refund for their ticket.Read more

The cold conditions and ice across the country have posed challenges to our train fleet this week. In order to ensure that traffic runs as smoothly as possible in the coming days, we will cancel some of the train services for the rest of the week. We are gradually revising our ticket inspection practices. Starting from 28 August, our customers can inspect their own tickets in the VR Matkalla app. At this stage, the change concerns Ekstra Class seats and day train compartments. Ukrainians' eligibility to travel for free on our trains continues until the end of April

The free travel right granted for Ukrainian nationals will be waived at the end of this month. From the start of May, Ukrainians will need a ticket to travel on trains. Ukrainian passport holders have had a right to travel for free in our long-distance and commuter (D, G, M, O, R, T, Z) trains since March 2022 by presenting a valid passport at ticket inspection.Read more

New price levels have been added to long-distance train tickets. They make it possible to offer more tickets at different prices, including cheaper tickets. An agreement has been reached in the collective bargaining for the railway sector, and train traffic will run again in the early hours of Friday 24 March 2023. The first commuter traffic service will start at 4:04 am and the first long-distance traffic service at 3:40 am. VR's long-distance and commuter traffic will return to normal within about 24 hours. The Vainikkala border crossing point opened for passenger train traffic by decision of the border control on 18 October 2021. The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency will begin renovation work on the railway section between Riihimäki and Tampere. This will have a significant impact on train traffic. VR’s commuter train conductors will be entitled to impose a penalty fare

Starting from the beginning of February, commuter train conductors will be entitled to impose a penalty fare on passengers travelling without a valid and appropriate ticket. This change applies to the VR commuter traffic trains - trains D, G, M, R, T, Z. The penalty fare is EUR 80. Read more
