In­ter­rup­tions and timetable changes at Ainola station during Easter and in the summer

Due to the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency’s Helsinki–Riihimäki track renovation project, there will be changes to the use of Ainola station as well as short interruptions during Easter and the summer. The railway project will also affect the use of Järvenpää and Saunakallio stations.

It is recommended that users of Ainola station travel on local buses via Järvenpää during the interruptions. The timetables for the buses can be found in HSL’s Journey Planner, Opens in a new tab.

The track work will also affect the use of the platforms at Järvenpää and Saunakallio stations. R train traffic will be reduced in Järvenpää and Saunakallio from Saturday 12 July to Sunday 13 July, which means that some trains will not stop at the stations. Impacts of the Helsinki–Riihimäki railway project on the use of Ainola station:

There will be interruptions at Ainola station between 19 and 21 April.

  • The interruption begins on 19 April:
    The last R train to Helsinki departs at 2:51 p.m. and the last train from Helsinki stops at 3:07 p.m.
  • The interruption ends on 21 April:
    The first R train to Helsinki departs at 9:51 a.m. and the first train from Helsinki stops at 10:07 a.m.
  • Due to track work, 5-minute timetable changes have been made for some of the R and T trains. Please check the departure time of your train at vr.fi.

Other changes to train traffic:

  • The new eastern platform 4 will be in use in Ainola from Monday 16 to Sunday 29 June. Trains will stop in both directions.
  • The new eastern platform 4 will be in use in Ainola from Monday 30 June to Friday 11 July. Trains to Helsinki will not stop in Ainola.
  • Trains will not stop in Ainola from Saturday 12 to Sunday 13 July. R train traffic will be reduced in Järvenpää and Saunakallio, which means that some trains will not stop in Järvenpää or Saunakallio. Please check for more detailed information on your train at vr.fi.
  • Trains will not stop in Ainola from Monday 14 July to Thursday 24 July.
  • Trains will stop at the platform 4 in Ainola from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 July.
  • R train traffic will be reduced in Ainola from Monday 28 July to Sunday 10 August, which means that some trains will not stop in Ainola. Please check the departure time of your train at vr.fi, Opens in a new tab or in the VR Matkalla app.
  • In addition, there will be total interruptions on a few nights, during which T trains will be replaced by buses between Kerava and Järvenpää. More info about the replacement buses can be found on our track work page., Opens in a new tab

Background to the project:

The Helsinki–Riihimäki railway project will create the prerequisites for smoother traffic on the busiest railway section in Finland. As a result of the project, traffic will operate better, passenger train traffic can be increased and the competitiveness of freight train traffic will improve.
