You can buy tickets for connecting buses to ski and nature destinations together with the train journey or afterwards. The service is offered in cooperation with Matkahuolto.

Buying and using a connecting bus ticket
Connecting bus tickets can be purchased together with the train journey or afterwards.
Purchasing connecting bus tickets together with train journey
- Search for the journey on vr.fi. You can search for a journey using the name of the ski resort or nature destination.
- If the station of departure or destination of your journey is in the connecting bus offering, you can add the connecting bus ticket to your order after you’ve chosen the train journey.
- Select the connecting bus service of your choice and add the connecting bus ticket to your order.
- Pay for your order and all your selected tickets at once.
- After the payment, your train and bus tickets are sent to your e-mail address. If you were logged in at vr.fi, you will be able to find your tickets in vr.fi or the VR Matkalla app’s Tickets section.
Buying connecting bus tickets afterwards
- Log in to vr.fi and select My tickets.
- From the list, find the train trip for which you want to buy a connecting bus ticket. Select Show journey and then Edit my journey.
- If connecting buses are available, you can click on the first item under the Change your journey heading.
- Select the correct departure or terminus station on the list. When you have found a suitable bus connection, you can confirm the change and pay for the bus ticket.
- After payment, you will receive the tickets to the email address you have provided. The tickets can also be found under "Your tickets” on vr.fi and in the VR Matkalla app.

You can buy connecting bus tickets when you are travelling to or from one of the following destinations:

- Iso-Syöte (via Oulu)
- Levi (via Kolari or Rovaniemi)
- Luosto (via Rovaniemi)
- Olostunturi (via Kolari or Rovaniemi)
- Pyhätunturi (via Rovaniemi or Kemijärvi)
- Ruka (via Kemijärvi or Oulu)
- Sallatunturi (via Kemijärvi)
- Suomu (via Kemijärvi)
- Vuokatti (via Kajaani)
- Ylläs, Ylläs Ski Resort, Ylläsjärvi and Äkäslompolo (via Kolari)

- Hossa National Park (via Kajaani)

Tickets for connecting buses can be purchased on the vr.fi website:
- when purchasing a single ticket
- when booking a journey with a multi-ticket
- afterwards by logging in to the website.
- when purchasing a single ticket
- On vr.fi, you can buy adult, student or pensioner single tickets for connecting buses. If you are travelling with children, they are sold the adult single tickets.
- VR and the bus operators have different age limits for children’s single tickets. Therefore, children’s single tickets are not sold on vr.fi.
- It is possible to purchase a spot for your bicycle both on train journeys (bike space) and on connecting bus trips (bike ticket). When searching for your journey, select the bicycle option, and you’ll see available train and bus routes with bike spaces. On connecting buses, you can transport one adult or child’s bicycle with a bike ticket. Each bicycle must have its own ticket. The cost varies depending on the bus company.
- The connecting bus tickets are valid as such on the bus service you chose for your journey. They are valid from the departure bus stop and until the destination bus stop listed in your ticket.
- Single tickets for connecting buses are priced according to the bus operator and Matkahuolto’s prices.
- A service charge of EUR 2.00 per passenger is added to single tickets bought via our website.
- Normal practices, Opens in a new tab apply to any changes and cancellations of train journeys.
- If the train journey is delayed, general compensation practices will be followed also with connecting bus single tickets.
Connecting bus tickets and cancellations
- Connecting bus single tickets are not covered by cancellation insurance.
- Connecting bus single tickets that have already been bought cannot be cancelled.
Connecting bus tickets and changes
- Purchased connecting bus single tickets cannot be changed.
- If you wish to change your train journey, the connecting bus single ticket bought together with the original journey will be lost and is not refunded.
