The new timetable period starts on 15 December – how will it affect traffic?
The new timetable period starts on 15 December, and this article presents the biggest changes affecting traffic.
Train traffic will return to Turku station on 15 December.
The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency’s railway project, which began in 2022 and covers the development of Turku passenger and freight shunting yards and the construction of a double track between Kupittaa and Turku railway station, will be completed in December 2024. The railway project interrupted train traffic between Kupittaa and Turku, which is why Kupittaa has been the departure and destination station of trains heading for Helsinki.
From Sunday 15 December onwards, trains between Turku and Helsinki will start to run to/from Turku station. The train services to and from the Port of Turku will return to normal.
Turku railway station has moved to Logomo. The address of the new station is Logomon Silta 1, and you will be able to walk from the old station building to the new one in about 10–15 minutes. Station services are also nowadays available in Logomo’s premises.
The Iisalmi-Ylivieska route will continue to be operated by a regional train
A railbus has previously operated between Iisalmi and Ylivieska. The electrification of the route was completed in early 2024, and from 15 December onwards, the route will be operated by a regional train driven by an electric locomotive.
Unfortunately, the train between Iisalmi and Ylivieska is not accessible. If you need accessibility services, you can contact our free accessibility service number, 0800 188 822, and we will arrange a taxi for you.

Changes to northward services
Train IC 27 will continue until Rovaniemi, which speeds up the route from Helsinki to Rovaniemi by about an hour. Similarly, from 15 December, IC 37 will only operate to Oulu.
During the most popular travel weeks of the year, a day train travelling from Helsinki to Rovaniemi on Fridays at 12:24 p.m. continues onwards in the evening to Kemijärvi, arriving at Kemijärvi at 9:45 p.m. The Saturday morning return train departs from Kemijärvi at 7:40 a.m. and arrives in Helsinki at 5:35 p.m. The first day train to Kemijärvi will be operated on 20 December.
